The supplier reality

The retailer mandate is real, the timeline is short, the consultant route is slow.

Landing a major retail account is a milestone. The contract is signed. Forecasts are loaded into the planning system. The team is ready to ship.

Then the procurement person on the other end sends over their EDI spec sheet and says 'we need you compliant by end of quarter.'

That spec sheet is 80 pages. It references X12 850s with retailer-specific extensions, custom UCC-128 SSCC label requirements, ASN timing rules, vendor compliance scorecards with chargebacks for missed SLAs, and a test environment that's only available for limited windows.

Beyond compliance, there's a data problem. The retailer's system needs your product catalogue in their format, with their product codes, at the prices in your contract. When you update a price, discontinue a product, or add a new SKU, that update needs to reach their system before the next order cycle. Usually it doesn't. Chargebacks follow.

Most suppliers don't have an in-house EDI specialist. The default option is hiring a consultant at $5,000-$15,000 for a 4-6 month project. Or paying SPS Commerce or TrueCommerce for a managed service. Either way, by the time you're live, the commercial moment has cooled and your internal champion is asking why this took so long.

Sable parses the retailer spec sheet automatically and generates the mapping in days. Pre-built adapters for major retailers mean most onboardings take hours, not months. You stay focused on selling and shipping.
